No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula made a winning return in her first match since the Australian Open. She won 6-0 6-4 against 2022 Wimbledon Quarterfinalist and San Diego Open Qualifier Jule Niemeier of Germany. Pegula raced to a 6-0 5-1 lead, but got broken as she served for the match with a double break cushion at 5-2. Serving for the match the second time, she found herself at 5-4 0-40. She saved those 3 break points and showed some spectacular court coverage on match point.

In the press conference afterwards, Pegula analyzed the match in depth and touched on the things that she worked on after the Australian Open. She talked about her different service motion and the tweaks to it, as well as other things on her mind related to her tennis right now.

Pegula will take on the Winner of Dayana Yastremska and Anna Blinkova in the Quarterfinals.
